I did a happy dance when I found a round-trip plane ticket to Vegas for $235. But it turned out too good to be true!
Their fees are ridiculous. I paid an extra $50 both ways for my luggage being a few pounds over the max limit of 40lbs. They charge another $50 to check-in a carry-on or $100 at the gate. Complimentary is not in the vocabulary of Spirit Airlines, not even a simple cup of water is free. You have to pay to get your throat wet. And you have to pay by credit or debit card, no cash. You also have to pay extra to pick your seat. Although you may have booked the flight along with another person there is no guarantee that you will be seated with your companion if you don't pay the extra fee.
Here is the most depressing part ... my luggage was lost! After my flight back home, I waited at baggage claim with every one else and my luggage never came out. I went to the Spirit check-in counter to get some help and I got nothing but rude customer service. I was there for two hours after my flight landed and basically given a number to check back with them, and I still had no clue as to what happened to my luggage. We only got 2 of the 3 items, each checked-in at the same time.
The next day at around noon, after I had been calling numbers all morning with no luck of even speaking to anyone, my luggage was found. When I asked what happened, I got attitude. I was told it was my fault my bag was delayed since I was late checking in and almost missed the plane. Considering that I checked my luggage along with my sister's bag and my daughter's car-seat at 3:16 pm for a flight that was scheduled to take off at 4:50 pm, I was appalled and insulted. I was not late.
After we checked in, I went to the bathroom, took my daughter to the bathroom, bought a few snacks and I still waited almost an hour before boarding. So how was I late??? How did the other 2 items checked in at the same time arrive at baggage claim if I was late??? Nobody had any answers. Someone dropped the ball and tried to cover their rear by putting a late-check in tag on my luggage after it was left behind when I was indeed on time. I was very inconvenienced. I had to go buy more formula and a cell charger because it was in my luggage. When I went back the next day to get it, of course I had to pay for parking and a luggage cart. I have yet to be compensated. I will NEVER fly Spirit Airlines again.
