I am currently in the US Airforce and stationed in Las Vegas. Like most of the people here i wanted to fly home for the holidays, so i bought some cheap tickets with Spirit Airlines. At first i thought that it was a great deal since the tickets only cost about $150, and i got them a few days before leaving.
The day I left was very hectic, and i didn't have time to change out of uniform so i went straight from the base to the airport. When i got to the airport i was treated with no respect, and the Spirit Employees were very rude to me, even while i was in uniform. They charged be 45 dollars to check my bag in, and then they raised the price to $50 because i asked for a manager to come over. I was thinking that the manager would be a little more reasonable and try to help me out, but she was even worse than the rest of the people. She told me that there were no exceptions and that I needed to pay the fee and get on the plane, so i payed the fee and got on the plane.
As I was waiting, a Spirit representative ran over and said that the flight would be delayed 2 hours. So i sat there and waited longer. Finally 2 hours has passed and the plane pulls up. As we all board the plane there is a horrible smell throughout the cabin. It appears that 3 people became sick on the previous flight. Spirit did a quick clean up but the smell was still there and it was making everyone feel ill. The flight was horrible and there was no seat room. I had to sit sideways because there was absolutely no room for my legs.
An hour and a half later my flight landed. I leave the plane and go to the baggage claim and wait, and wait and wait. Finally I realize that Spirit has lost my bag. I was the only person on the flight to not receive my baggage. After realizing this i walk over to the Spirit counter and ask for customer service. The man that was there told me that there was nothing that he could do and that i needed to fill out a claim form. After filling out the claim form, he said that he would give me a call when the next shift started at 4 am. My home is a 2 hour drive from the Oakland airport so i just wanted to go home and sleep since it was 2 am.
I was home for about a week and a half, calling every day about my luggage. Most of the time i would get automated messages that would give me no information at all. Finally i would get someone who i thought knew what they were talking about. Some of the employees pretended like they cared to get me off the phone with them and then never bothered to call me back. I was on vacation for a week and a half without luggage so i had to buy clothes to wear and lost all of my Christmas presents that i was bringing home to my family.
Spirit waits a week and then calls me and tells me that my claim is no longer in their hands, and that i needed to email corporate. I email corporate and they tell me that i need to fill out a lost luggage claim (even though i have already filled one out). I fill out the second claim and send it in. Spirit still has yet to get back to me. The next claim they send me states that i need someone to notarize the form because the claim is over 500 dollars. I am still waiting for a response from Spirit and its been 2 weeks since i have seen my bag. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS. Spirit not only ruined my travel experience but they ruined my Christmas, and they continue to keep ruining my day.
