Niki B. writes: I bought a plane ticket with Spirit that was Boston to Myrtle Beach to Fort Lauderdale to Montego Bay (Jamaica). On my last stop in Fort Lauderdale, our plane couldn’t pull into the gate due to another aircraft being there. I began to worry, seeing as I had a connecting flight to catch (that was in another terminal, might I add) but a flight attendant came on the loud speaker and said, “All passengers with connecting flights to Montego Bay, don’t worry they are holding the plane for you." Once I heard this, I relaxed and waited for our plane to pull into the gate (after about thirty minutes). I then get a frantic call from my sister (who is on the connecting flight to Montego Bay) telling me to hurry up because my connecting flight is about to leave. I rush through the plane and run as fast as I can through the airport to get over to the next terminal but my connecting flight had already left.
I go to the Spirit counter and try to get something figured out. I figured since I missed the flight (due to no fault of my own) I could get a flight to Jamaica for later that evening. Not only was the customer service representative rude and not helpful at all, the supervisor comes out and she is the exact same way! They couldn’t give me any straight answers to any of my questions. They were telling me things that contradicted other statement they made. The supervisor, Zoila at the front desk of the Fort Lauderdale airport, was beyond rude to me. My sister worked for Spirit, so I informed Zoila of this, and she told me that maybe I should go and talk to my sister.
I was very upset that I missed my flight due to the lack of communication on Spirit’s part, but what really upset me was the nonchalant attitude of Spirit’s employees. No one seemed to care about my situation and no one wanted to take responsibility for an error that was clearly Spirit’s fault. My advice: DON’T FLY SPIRIT!! They make you think that you’re getting a good deal with the airfare but you make up for the “cheap” airfare with baggage fees. Spend your hard-earned money with an airline that actually gives a crap about its passengers.
