Mike H. writes: My wife and I made plans to travel from Chicago to Myrtle Beach for what
we knew would be my dad's last Christmas alive. To make a long story
short, he passed away right before Christmas and his memorial service
was on the same day as our originally-scheduled return flight.
Understandably, due to the busy holiday travel season, all flights
returning to Chicago from Myrtle Beach were booked for over the next
week, so we flew home on a different airline. Understand that we DID
contact Spirit in advance of the originally-scheduled return flight to
explain the circumstances, and would have even understood (and paid) any
change fees Spirit wanted. Because of the hectic details of my
father's services, I was unable to further follow-up with Spirit until
after returning to Chicago.
Well, they've basically now told me that I'm not getting a refund or
credit toward a future flight and that the value of my return tickets
will be forfeited! I guess not even a dead dad will stand in the way
of them making a buck.
You may certainly publicize this story if you wish, and I'm not done
fighting. I will not stop until they issue me a refund (I'm no longer
willing to absorb their change/cancel fees either).
I'm thankful that I found your website, and will pursue some of the other options listed herein if needed.
