Attempting to fly Spirit Airlines is the worst travel decision I have ever made.
My husband and I booked a round trip on Spirit from Houston to Orlando. We had to cancel that trip (and Spirit took $350 for that, leaving me with a $150 credit). Fine, my fault I had to cancel but it still didn't sit well with me as Southwest Airlines will just retain the full credit for you for future travel.
We booked a trip to Las Vegas and I decided to make use of the credit with Spirit, so we flew Southwest one way on the way out and we were going to fly Spirit on the return flight. The flight was to leave Las Vegas at 1:25 AM. They cancelled my return flight at 11PM that night, using weather as an excuse. There were no weather issues anywhere between Las Vegas and Houston.
They said they would book me on the next available flight -- guess what, there weren't any! So I got "sorry, there are no flights, we will refund you what you paid." I wanted the full refund, including the $150 credit I used because I decided then and there I would never fly this sorry excuse for an airline ever again. They wouldn't even give me my credit. I was refunded $141 and I "retained" my original credit of $150 with them (which I will never use) and they were NICE enough to extend my credit deadline by 30 days! BIG DEAL!
Then I had to book Southwest airlines at the last minute to get home and it cost me full fare so we ended up having to pay $1144 for two one way tickets home. After being in Las Vegas for 6 days and losing money, the last thing I felt like doing was shelling out $1200 to get home. Spirit Airlines is the absolute worst airline I have ever seen, and it cost me a lot of money to find that out.
