Having some fun with the Secret Service prostitute scandal in Cartagena, Columbia, Spirit ran an ad featuring a man dressed to look like a member of the Secret Service with young women in pink bikinis under the headline, "More Bang For Your Buck!" The copy went on to advertise flights to the site of the scandal, implying -- in the minds of some, especially those in Columbia -- an advertisement for sex tourism.
After several days of complains from Columbians both in Columbia and in America, Spirit Airlines pulled the ads and officially apologized yesterday with a statement saying, "we meant no disrespect to our many friends and valued customers.”
Stay tuned for the next newsworthy sex scandal to see what Spirit advertises!
