Kim C. writes: I am a 4'10 woman who recently boarded a Spirit Airlines flight going from Houston-IAH to New Orleans, Flight 680.
I was boarding the plane & was in the process of getting to my seat. As I entered the plane I was greeted by 2 male flight attendants.
One of them asked, "Ma'am would you like to have a belt extension?" looked at me and then laughed. The other one chuckled as well. He was referring to my small stature and wanted to point this out to everyone on the plane, including the passengers and his crew.
I looked puzzled as I couldn't believe how unprofessional his behavior was . He noticed I did not "get his joke" and brushed it off by saying "I'm just messing with you."
There were passengers waiting to board behind me and I felt embarrassed & humiliated. I'm writing to let you know that this discriminatory behavior is unacceptable. Regardless of someone's appearance or size, everyone needs to be treated with the same standard of courtesy and respect.
Would Steven have asked a 200 lb woman if she needed a belt extender or an extra seat because she was fat? Or a bald man if he need a wool hat to cover his bare head then proceed to laugh?
Discrimination of any kind should not be tolerated.
Please remember: I am a passenger trying to get to my destination just like everyone else.
