I am a British citizen and have recently returned from to a visit to the USA. On the 27th May I left my cell phone in a cab in Las Vegas. Upon calling the phone it was answered by a very kind gentleman who was just about to check in at the Spirit Airline desk in Las Vegas Terminal 1. He gave my cell phone to a person whose name I will not share here at the check in desk and gave me that person's details whist in his presence. I took a cab to Spirit Airlines from my hotel but when I got to the check in desk and spoke to the Spirit employee my phone had disappeared from their possession.
No one seemed particularly concerned by this although the supervisor did eventually make an effort to find it but to no avail. I do not understand how an employee of any airline could not ensure that someone's personal property was not kept securely. What exactly happened to my phone is not known, whether it was lost or misappropriated will remain a mystery.
