Casey W. writes: Wow, so there are others out there. I am shocked at what I am finding online (as I sit on my flight home on Delta.)
So I booked at trip through Bookit.com - a flight / hotel all inclusive deal to Cabo for a girls' trip. I arrived at the Atlanta airport (my home city) for a flight that was supposed to go Atlanta - Houston - Cabo. The first thing I see at the airport is chaos as the line, kiosks, staff and passengers are literally a "jungle" trying to check in. I thought "well, busy day for them ... whatever."
I get to the gate, board my flight and sit for 30 minutes until they come on and say there is a "ground stop in Houston, we are delayed." Okay, no biggie, Houston is having major flooding. Then they come on and say, it's delayed another hour and if we want to get off the plane, we can. The flight attendant announces, "trust me, we don't get paid when we don't fly," and so i get off the plane only to be greeted by a man who says chances are even if this flight takes off, we will miss the connecting flight in Houston to Cabo. The Spirit lady tells me the next flight from Houston to Cabo is SATURDAY! (Keep in mind this is only a Thursday - Sunday trip.) I call my fiancé who says take the hit and book the Delta $900.00 flight leaving in a hour, going direct, so I did. I will worry about refunds later.
Here is the kicker ... I go to the desk right outside the gate where the most unprofessional lady I have ever encountered is shouting and yelling ... at the passengers!!! I tell her, "I just need my bag," which I had checked - "off the plane as I have booked another flight on Delta that leaves in an hour." She tells me if front of everyone, "Mam, we can't do that ... for all I know you could have a bomb or a taser or a gun and blow this whole place up in that bag! No, if you want it you have to tell Delta at the gate when you get there. That is THEIR problem now."
Okay, first off, do you even HINT at the fear of an attack after 9/11 ... much less suggest a passenger has weapons? You just don't. Second, guess what happened when I arrived in Cabo? No luggage. For the next FOUR days, I spent some of my time and eventually gave the concierge $20.00 bucks to make all the calls for me to try to find the luggage. Spirit does not answer calls, but then everyone on the internet seems to know that already but me. Third, I did talk with a representative in Guatamala and when I gave him my original bag tag number, he said it didn't track to ... anything. It's like I handed over my luggage and it was just ... GONE.
Fast forward, I FINALLY get my luggage back the day before I go home, and when I open it I have someone else's toiletry bag (gross!!!) and my digital camera is GONE. So that's a whole other issue. Ugh. I will never ever, ever fly them again. I told the one rep I spoke to that I will commit my life and time to bringing down Spirit because honestly, it's just completely unacceptable. They can't continue ripping people off, stealing, not responding to problems. I do have a lawyer who is willing to fire off a letter for me, but from what I am reading, looks like Spirit will ignore it. However, my family owns an airline tooling and aviation repair business which has a lot of contacts with FAA and safety departments. I may get nowhere, but I'm not letting this go.
