Helens writes: There are several problems I encountered with this airline in the same flight.
First off, I traveled to Orlando for a business trip which required me to be at the convention at 9:00 am. The flight was delayed with no explanation and left Ft Lauderdale at 9:45 am. By the time that I arrived at the hotel, the event I needed to attend was over. This caused me a chain of consequences. The event was mandatory and required me to comply with several hours of assistance in order for my state license to not be revoked. In other words I paid for a flight and took a trip which, at the end, was worthless.
The biggest issue I had with Spirit was the carry-on luggage. After booking the flight, without previous disclosure, when I arrived at the airport, I had to pay for both of my carry-ons. On the way back they made me once again pay $100.00 for each of my carry-ons at the gate. I believe this is completely illegal and excessive. I ended up paying for a 1-hour trip which was delayed to Orlando as if I would have a paid for a first class airline ticket on the finest airline. This is abusive and totally ridiculous.
Additionally the employees were nasty, unprofessional, unpolite and carried themselves extremely inappropriately.
Another problem I encountered with Spirit is the seating. They make you pay for seating after booking your flight, even if there is no upgrade to your seat. Spirit is obviously taking advantage of their travelers by not disclosing a series of fees that arise after booking is completed and actually get disclosed 24 hours prior to your trip, which makes it impossible to cancel because you loose your money. I ask that this issue gets addressed and that my money is refunded for all these expenses.
