Anuja offers an open letter to Spirit Airlines: To Whom It May Concern,
I am very unhappy with my flight experience with spirit airlines. Regarding flight # 407 from MCO to DFW on Dec 11, 2012 (8:05pm-10:00pm) I was seated in 26 B (last middle row seat in the left side of the plane). The guy who was sitting in front of me tried his best to sit up straight while the plane took off, but he was unable to because the seat was loose and wouldn't go up. I even notified the flight attendant named Hannah and she said "that's okay."
I thought seats were supposed to be all the way up at least for take off and landing. For god sake this is aircraft safety. "When the seat is up, it is locked. When the seat is back, it's not locked. The seat was completely unlocked as it was making noise and coming loose. Section 121.311(d) of the Federal Aviation Regulations requires seat backs that can be locked into position. Since most accidents occur during takeoff and landing, it is for the safety of everyone on board the aircraft to have all seats in their upright and locked position, but this airline seems to care less about passenger safety than about money.
Second, PLEASE check the tray table on this seat as the tray table was completely broken. Such negligence on seats! I have pictures to show evidence of the tray table situation. Also, I notified the flight attendant and all she said was "Thanks for letting me know." She didn't ask me if I wanted to be seated in any other seat or anything like that.
Spirit charged me $80 just because my carry-on was few inches too tall. I have taken the same carry-on to almost all 50 states without ever having any problem and I have never had to pay extra for it. Just because my carry-on was few inches taller, Spirit charged me $80. And yet, when it comes to Spirit's maintenance, who is going to take care of that? If Spirit is that strict about carry-ons, then they should be strict about the passenger safety in the aircraft too!
I am a vice president of the student association and I am going to recommend that nobody travels on Spirit. This is the worst flight I have ever experienced. I am so pissed!
