Alisha P. writes: My boyfriend frequently travels to DC on business. This time he was only going to be home from Wed-Sun. Spirit's cancellation shortened that trip to Thur evening through Sunday. The flight was to leave around 8 pm tonight 6-17-15. They delayed it at that time till 3 am, then at around 10 pm they announced the cancellation. It seems they could have given more notice.
Just spoke to my boyfriend from his hotel room and learned of the riot he was present for at BWI tonight as three planes worth of Spirit travelers tried rebooking with 3 spirit employees (including the 22 year-old manager). He said they cranked out replacement tickets at the rate of one ticket every 4 or 5 minutes. He noted that at this rate the last people in line won't be served for 10 hours.
This wait, combined with the quality of replacement tickets (such as the man whose replacement ticket for the next day included a 9-hour layover) resulted in a riot. The Baltimore police were called in to calm the angry passengers.
Every time we use Spirit Airlines we vow it will be our last. With the new added potential of physical harm from riots caused by incompetence, this time it truly will be our last.
Thanks again for a place to share my story and vent.
