Alex writes: I purchased a round trip ticket for a friend and paid $177.78.
As she checked in for the return flight (Nov 18th), the Spirit supervisor informed the passenger that the flight back was cancelled by the
airline without informing either the purchaser or the passenger. When I
asked why it was cancelled, the answer was “because you didn’t check in
for the first flight”. I could understand if the answer was “you didn’t
pay, therefore it was cancelled”, but the answer sounded to
us (and to everyone else, without exceptions) as a ridiculous!
The passenger was offered to buy a NEW ticket for the same flight (that
already was paid for!) for a price of $132. She had no choice and
purchased the ticket because the boarding was supposed to start in 45
minutes. When she arrived to the gate, she discovered that the flight was
being delayed for 2 hours!
The supervisor sold us a ticket for a delayed flight without
informing us! As a result the passenger waited 2 hours to board and
spent extra money in San Diego to rearrange everything.
I Paid $177.78 for a product/service and I never received the product/service that I’ve paid for.
I called customer service to ask for a refund. I must
add that the time it took for me to reach the customer service, was the same as
the flight time from Las Vegas to San Diego. Then they started to
transfer the call from one representative to another. All said that the
policy says that if you lose the first flight, the 2nd is automatically
I’ve sent 4 complaints via the website (where I couldn’t find anything
that says that if I lose the first flight, the second will be cancelled). None of those complaints were responded to.
I’m not complaining about the delay of the flights, or about the service
and the fees that Spirit charges for carry ons and drinks on their
airplanes. I just want justice! I paid for something that I didn’t
I’m writing this letter not because I have nothing better to do, but
because I Feel that Spirit STOLE my money and all I want is to get
the stolen money back to me. The answers that their customer service provided are not satisfying “there
is nothing to do” is not an answer. Regardless the fact that, I’ve found later
that Spirit Airlines is one of the 20 worst Airlines in the WORLD by
SkyTrax. Being in the same category with Syrian Airlines/Turkmenistan
Airlines/Tajik Air/Angola Airlines is not something to be proud of.
Being the only American airline in this list is also not something
that will attract me and others to fly with Spirit.
